Pilates

Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's.

Pilates is a conditioning exercise programme that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall central core stability and posture. Pilates can help improve and maintain good posture, flexibility, strength and a balanced peace of mind.

Clinical pilates is a series of mat based exercises in various different body positions which have been adapted by Physiotherapists to make them more suitable for patients with back and neck pain, those recovering from injury and ante and post natal ladies.

Clinical Pilates is a relaxing and gentle form of exercise. My 1:1 approach ensures that the exercises are being performed correctly and can be adapted to the person's individual needs. Evidence supports the use of the Pilates method in the prevention and rehabilitation of back injuries. By retraining the deep abdominal and spinal muscles, Pilates can help to prevent the recurrence of back pain in combination with correct back care and advice, and gentle aerobic activity.

I provide an ante and post natal clinical Pilates service, which is a 1:1 approach, based in the clinic. I will assess you for weaknesses and tight areas and then create a Pilates exercise programme tailored to your individual needs. This will be monitored and progressed during your pregnancy and post natal period.
